Yeast Dinner Rolls
This afternoon, my child asked for some yeast rolls like her grandparents usually make for her. Now, my parents have always bought frozen yeast rolls that come in a bag full of round dough balls from the grocery store. They’re okay, and definitely have a place in my childhood memories because they’ve been the same rolls for every major holiday for as long as I can remember. But…they’re nothing special flavor and texture wise, and I love making homemade bread. So since I had sufficient spoons today to humor her, we made a batch of these easy dinner rolls together.
These dinner rolls have a soft, fluffy crumb and are perfect with a pat of butter. Even without they are deliciously buttery on their own!

These simple rolls are easy to prep early in the day for a delicious, buttery addition to your dinner.
Ingredients
- 1c (237ml) water
- 2tbsp (28g) unsalted butter plus extra for brushing
- 3tbsp (38g) sugar
- 2 1/4tsp (7g) active dry yeast
- 1tsp (6g) salt
- 2 1/4c (270g) all-purpose flour
- 1 egg (beaten)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, add the warm water. Mix the butter and sugar in the water until the butter is melted and the sugar is dissolved. Allow to mixture to cool to lukewarm (110-115
- °F). Whisk in the yeast.
- Add the flour, salt, and beaten egg and mix until completely combined without lumps. Dough will be very wet and sticky. Leave in mixing bowl, covered in a warm location, and allow to rise until dough as doubled in size (approximately 1hr).
- While dough is rising, grease a 12-cup muffin pan with butter well.
- Using a spoon or ice cream soup, divide dough into 10-12 muffin tins, filling approximately 2/3 full. Allow to rise until doubled in size again (approximately 45mins).
- While dough is rising, preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
- When dough has doubled in size, bake for 10 minutes until tops are golden brown and an inserted knife comes out clean.
- Brush melted butter onto cooling rolls for beautiful shiny, buttery tops.
- Enjoy!
Notes:
- You can use instant yeast and active dry interchangeably. Instant or fast rise yeast may reduce time needed for dough to double in size.
- You can use shortening instead of butter in this recipe if preferred, but I like the buttery flavor!
